Salary

Responsibilities
1) Oversee and coordinate the technical development of a vaccine project funded through a US Government contract
2) Work with a Program Management Team that has responsibility for the overall program cost, schedule and contract performance aspects
3) Serve as the technical lead of a highly-energetic, matrixed team comprising manufacturing, non-clinical, clinical and regulatory experts
4) Translate the client's technical requirements into a technical development strategy, archiving a balance between technical considerations and, through the Program Manager, the risks and impact on program cost and schedule
5) Solve the problems effectively for technical issues
6) Communicate with Senior Management and clients accurately and on a timely basis
7) Oversee and develop work statements, scope/priority definitions and the creation of budgets and schedules for large complex programs
8) Develop documents with appropriate standards and client requirements and needs
9) Perform ongoing review of program status and identify risks
10) Manage progress documents program, including implementation, timelines, issues, risks and successes to maintain program course
11) Assess results and determine and implement risk mitigation solutions as appropriate
12) Interface with team members, stakeholders and management to anticipate and manage changes to projects, such as, but not limited to, technical requirements, business requirements and schedule
13) Determine when additional resources are needed and implement same
14) Identify or gather information regarding possible solutions that may create additional, different or unique project objectives or results
15) Participate in discussions regarding project-related decisions and project direction at the executive level
16) Display creative problem-solving skills and an ability to apply those skills to development of a vaccine
17) Participate in proposal efforts and sales calls to ensure product meets client needs and specifications
18) Display ability to work both independently and as a member of matrixed teams and working groups
19) Demonstrate flexibility and an ability to manage strategy within a matrixed organization, clearly identifying and distinguishing "need to know" scientific objectives
Requirements
1) Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (Ph. D. preferred)
2) Minimum 5 years of experience beyond a postdoctoral fellowship with experience in supervising PhDs
3) Minimum 5 years of experience in managing product development of a vaccine, with clearly defined goals and successful progress
4) 9 or more years of project management experience
5) Experience as a managing Senior-Level Scientist
6) Experience in managing doctoral-level personnel (preferred)
7) Technical competence in a relevant scientific area (manufacturing, immunoassay development, non-clinical or clinical studies), with a strong knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices or Good Manufacturing Practices guidelines (preferred)
8) Demonstrated strong technical training in manufacturing, non-clinical studies to support vaccine licensure, or validation of processes or assays
9) Strong oral and written communication skills
10) Superb team-building and interpersonal skills
11) Strong analytical and problem-solving skill
12) Excellent leadership and negotiation skills to manage programs and develop new business
13) Strong interpersonal, leadership and presentation skills for interacting with team members and clients
14) Strong human relations skills to select, develop, mentor, discipline and reward employees
15) Personal computer and business solutions software skills
16) Ability to manage large or multiple projects, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to switch between tasks quickly
17) Ability to deal with ambiguity and change and ability to work in a team environment
18) Willingness to travel
