Microbiology Manager California
Salary

Responsibilities
1) Plan, direct and coordinate the operational activities of the microbiology lab
2) Oversee the supervisors within the department and manage approximately 25 associates
3) Maintain a safe and healthy work environment for associates by establishing and enforcing organizational safety standards and adhering to legal regulations
4) Ensure quality systems are being applied in the performance and documentation of lab studies and production processes
5) Ensure compliance with applicable quality and regulatory requirements (qualified/trained staff, validated equipment, proper documentation practices, etc.)
6) Ensure test methods and production processes meet specified protocol or SOP requirements, are scientifically sound and are performed error-free
7) Track, monitor, recommend and implement improvement activities to achieve annual first pass yield objectives
8) Participate in audits by clients or regulatory bodies
9) Address observations or recommendations as well as implement corrective/preventative actions as needed
10) Notify clients of test results and assist in the interpretation of what the results mean and how to proceed
11) Assist the Laboratory and Production Department with the interpretation of test results and to determine additional steps to be taken as needed
12) Perform a failure investigation identifying root cause and take corrective/preventive action in the event of a failure
13) Work with peers (other department managers) to standardize work practices throughout the organization
14) Participate in micro summit activities
15) Meet client expectations for timeliness of lab studies and product shipments as measured by on-time percentage
16) Analyze and resolve internal and/or external delays as well as identify trends, recommend improvements and implement improvement activities to achieve annual on-time objectives
17) Meet/exceed client expectations by providing exceptional customer service
18) Work with national account managers to ensure customer expectations are understood and met
19) Travel with national accounts managers (as needed) to promote microbiology services
20) Accomplish financial and business objectives by forecasting requirements/capacity
21) Prepare annual capital and expense budgets as well as schedule expenditures, analyze variances and initiate corrective action
22) Establish department goals by gathering pertinent business, financial, service and operations information
23) Identify and evaluate trends and options, choose a course of action, define objectives and evaluate outcomes
24) Work with Accounting to establish standard costing
25) Advise clients on technical issues and assist CEPs as required
26) Review incoming requests for technical appropriateness of testing to meet client needs and interact with clients to resolve all technical issues
27) Ensure competency in company policies and procedures by maintaining 100% training compliance throughout the department
28) Improve knowledge by attending external training programs in related field
29) Maintain qualified staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting and training associates
30) Develop personal growth opportunities via training plans and/or career path planning
31) Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, appraising job results, counseling and disciplining employees, etc.
32) Communicate openly with direct reports, peers and management
33) Ensure that the department adheres to, supports as well as implements all corporate policies and SOP
34) Rely on company's elements of communication excellence and good meeting practices
35) Ensure compliance with applicable requirements of ISO 13485, AAALAC, IACUC, FDA, USDA, DEA, OSHA and local health agencies
36) Maintain confidentiality in accordance with company's confidentiality agreement.
37) Perform other duties as directed
Requirements
1) Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or related scientific discipline
2) Minimum 5 years of microbiology department management experience including budgeting and training
3) Minimum 2 years of successful staff management experience in managing 10+ staff
4) Experience in P&L
