About our client
Our client is a leading Global Pharmaceutical company headquartered in Maine that is focused on the development and distribution of drugs and instruments/diagnostic kits for animals and livestock (i.e. veterinary instruments, diagnostic kits, drugs, food and water products, etc.). Director of Reference Laboratory Operations Toronto, ON
Salary
Highly competitive package, commensurate with experience
Responsibilities
1) Establish strategic direction for profitable growth of the Canada Reference Laboratories consistent with the company’s global and regional goals.
2) Define goals and implement plans to achieve objectives in the following areas by laboratory and across the region
3) Financial performance, including revenues, gross and operating margins all while assuring forecast accuracy
4) Cost efficiency, including economies of scale, efficient lab network, courier costs and service levels, unit cost reductions
5) Service and quality goals, including ISO compliance
6) Strategic initiatives such as Lean and Six Sigma, new test/service launches, opening of new day labs
7) Management team development; align with global operations initiatives to continuously improve efficiencies and drive down costs through purchasing leverage and best practice implementation.
8) Align with corporate line-of-business, regional CAG customer facing organization, finance and marketing, pathology, transportation, HR and IT teams to determine revenue goals, short and long-term strategies and the annual budget, and to provide daily, monthly and quarterly performance updates.
9) Provide leadership for cross organizational and cross-functional cooperation, communication and system and process improvements
10) Ensure, through support of the finance and HR function, compliance with finance policy and all reporting and control requirements.
11) Communicate, support and lead execution of the company’s mission, values and principles.
12) Represent the company in Canada to employees, customers and suppliers.
13) Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
1) Master’s degree in science or relevant equivalent degree, MBA preferred.
2) 10+ years of progressive leadership and management experience in the operations environment; laboratory operations management is preferred.
3) Profit and loss responsibility in fast growing company is preferred.
4) Proven management & leadership abilities.
5) Strong P/L achievement record in a profit organization.
6) Strong customer focus with experience implementing service level improvements and quality systems strong customer focus with experience implementing service level improvements and quality systems
7) Strategic thinking and planning in order to ensure continued growth in a competitive environment.
8) Continuous improvement skills, e.g. Lean lab operations and/or Six Sigma training and experience.
9) Strong negotiation skills especially in brokering global contracts and acquisitions.
10) Effective communications (presentations, correspondence, and 1-on-1 across whole company at all levels).
11) Ability to work in a matrix environment, in particular, with the sales and marketing counterparts in the lab business
12) Ability to create and communicate vision among the several regions and cultures of Canada, and the other, lines of business (e.g. in house diagnostics) and functional groups (e.g HR, Finance, IT, Customers Service, Pathology) of the company.
13) Strong leadership including the ability to develop and motivate individuals, create appropriate organizational structures, performance management, and change management.
14) Ability to hire and develop people who will challenge the status quo and consistently add value to the organization.
15) Integrity, authenticity, respect, and confidentiality.
16) Drive, initiative, break-through thinking, and business results.
17) General knowledge of all critical functional areas and understanding of the company's businesses, customers, technology, operations & processes.
18) Travel required to all Canada laboratories. Two to four trips per annum to Corporate HQ in the U.S.A. and other travel as required.
