About our client
Our client, located in Colorado, is amongst the leaders in performing animal and food testing, microbiological screening and testing of dietary supplements. They focus on analytical laboratory testing services. Due to growth, they are seeking an experienced Microbiology Lab Manager to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join a fast-paced environment!

Responsibilities
1) Ensure timely and accurate processing of assays and reporting of results
2) Manage and schedule staff (as appropriate) within the department
3) Provide technical expertise and assist in developing new and innovative assays
4) Liaise with clients and the Sales Team to assist in answering questions regarding results, testing methodologies as well as future tests
5) Carry out duties by supervising/managing departmental employees and working hand- in-hand with Customer Service, Sales and Front Office staff
6) Work accordingly with QA Director to ensure all data generated is accurate and in compliance with GMP and GLP, ISO 17025 guidelines as well as company quality system requirements
7) Serve as the main point of contact for major projects
8) Communicate effectively with customers, managers, analysts and support staff to ensure that project’s testing meets client’s specifications/regulatory expectations
9) Manage the daily operations of the Laboratory
10) Supervise Microbiology Laboratory staff including training, scheduling and workflow as well as handling personnel issues
11) Ensure the Department is correctly staffed to provide prompt project set-up and reporting as well as ensure there is adequate coverage for vacations, holidays and sick-leave
12) Review and sign analytical test reports generated by the Microbiology Department
13) Report late projects to client services so the client(s) can be notified
14) Address/resolve customer complaints, issues and inquiries efficiently and on time
15) Prepare and review all new bids (as necessary)
16) Coordinate appropriately with specific departments for availability, pricing, scheduling, etc.
17) Work in the Laboratory and delegate duties to other department employees to assist with heavy workload
18) Manage department inventory by ordering or assigning the ordering of necessary supplies
19) Maintain GMP compliance including writing/updating all department documents, training records/files and method/equipment validations
20) Assist QA with implementing principals and requirements of ISO 17025
21) Coordinate assigning/performing of preventative maintenance, monthly/quarterly/annual tests and calibration of thermometers, micropipettes and other equipment
22) Work with Quality Director to correct and/or implement action plans as a result of internal/external audits
23) Research/implement a corrective action plan in response to corrective action requests and root cause analysis investigations as per SOPs
24) Ensure all department employees are adhering to QA systems and policies set forth by the company
25) Liaise with the QA Department to ensure quality analytical results are being reported
26) Ensure all employees are wearing safety glasses and proper laboratory attire while in the lab areas
27) Act as a technical expert with regards to specific Microbiology Department questions
28) Ensure the Department provides a clean and safe-working environment to staff and visitors
29) Keep up-to-date with technology and market trends, develop new methods and services as well as validate/implement new services
30) Research, write-up and present proposals to company directors regarding bringing new methodologies/equipment online (as needed)
31) Attend trade shows and industry-related seminars to act as a technical representative and Manager of the Microbiology Laboratory
32) Assist business administration with writing/editing of marketing/sales materials related to the department
33) Perform employee reviews when necessary
34) Liaise with other managers to schedule/implement training and cross-training programs to write the departmental budget and businesses plans as well as conduct cost analysis for new methods
35) Ensure adherence to the proposed departmental budget
36) Perform other duties as required
Requirements
1) Ph. D./MS in Microbiology or a related degree
2) Minimum 5 years of experience in a microbiology laboratory
3) Experience in managing a food and water laboratory preferred
4) Ability to understand and apply microbiological principles and available technology in analyzing samples
5) Good customer service skills to deal with client inquiries
