| Responsibilities |
1) Initiate, direct and execute scientific research, development and manufacturing process strategies to support new and existing products 2) Investigate the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems
3) Plan and execute laboratory research 4) Maintain broad knowledge of state-of-the art principles and theories 5) Make contributions to scientific literature and conferences 6) Serve as an in-house and outside consultant 7) Act as a spokesperson for corporate scientific affairs and advise top management 8) Participate in developing patent applications 9) Promote and participate in the professional development of scientists and laboratory facilities 10) Use professional concepts to contribute to the development of product or process principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways 11) Monitor work to ensure quality and continuously promote Quality First Time 12) Perform other duties (as required) 13) Lead, organize, facilitate and analyze scientific projects 14) Plan scientific activities and devise strategies for achieving goals 15) Lead multiple projects team consisting of scientists and/or research associates 16) Plan and execute laboratory research 17) Create novel experimental protocols making significant scientific contributions 18) Provide critical evaluation of scientific data and detailed interpretation of results 19) Participate in efforts to define new products and identify technical challenges in product development 20) Provide technical mentoring and expertise to Research Associates and Scientist-level staff 21) Determine and develop scientific analysis and solutions 22) Recognize and document activities for publication and/or patent potential 23) Present and discuss data, present alternative action plans (and consequences) as well as clearly communicate recommendations to any level of the organization 24) Pursue and communicate objectives and planning options without supervision 25) Make major contributions to strategic directions through knowledge of technology and its creative applications 26) Monitor work to ensure quality and continuously promote Quality First Time |
| Requirements |
1) Ph. D. in Science with minimum 2 years or Master's degree with minimum 5 years of relevant experience (including exceptional individuals without an advanced degree by approval) 2) Any combination of academic education, professional training or work experience, which demonstrates ability to perform the duties of the position 3) Extensive knowledge of relevant sub-specialty field 4) In-depth knowledge of new product development and introduction and project management skills 5) Knowledge of project management techniques and ability to manage by and meet deadlines 6) Knowledge of laboratory techniques, data evaluation skills and an in-depth knowledge of pertinent literature
7) Superb communication skills (written and verbal) 8) Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, database and email software 9) Ability to write SOPs and manufacturing formulations supporting new reagents, probes or detection systems 10) Ability to prepare and present information to groups 11) Ability to create independent experimental designs, evaluation and analysis 12) Ability to move objects of less than 25 pounds and ability to sit and type 13) Ability to communicate in person as well as via telephone and email |
